Senator Dole (R-KS) has been Senate Minority Leader since 1986, after a two-year term as Senate Majority Leader.  He was elected to the Senate in 1968 and is now serving an unprecedented fifth term.  Dole is a member of the Senate committees of Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry; Finance; Rules and Administration; and Joint Taxation.  In recent years, Senator Dole has been a champion of lower taxes and reduced spending, the family-leave bill, and statehood for Washington, D.C.
